🚗 DVSA Update: Big Changes to Driving Test Booking in 2026

If you’re currently learning to drive (or thinking about starting), there are some important changes coming in 2026 that will affect how you book and manage your driving test.

📅 What’s Changing?

The DVSA is introducing new rules to make the booking system fairer and reduce long waiting times.

1. You Must Book Your Own Driving Test

From 12 May 2026, learners will need to book their own driving test directly.

👉 Instructors (including us) will no longer be allowed to:

Book tests for you
Change your test
Swap your test with another learner

This change is designed to stop third-party reselling and make the system fairer for genuine learners.

2. You Can Only Change Your Test Twice

From 31 March 2026, you’ll only be allowed 2 changes per booking.

This includes:

Changing the date or time
Changing the test centre
Swapping with another learner

After that, you’ll need to cancel and rebook completely.

3. Limited Test Centre Changes

You’ll only be able to move your test to nearby test centres, not across the country.

This helps stop people booking tests far away just to get an earlier date.

4. New Booking Confirmation Rules

When booking, you’ll need to confirm:

You are the person taking the test
You agree to the updated terms and conditions

This adds another layer of protection against misuse of the system.

The DVSA is trying to fix:

Long waiting times for tests
Bots and reselling of test slots
People repeatedly changing bookings

By tightening the rules, the goal is to make sure every test slot is used properly and fairly.
